Situated a stone’s throw from Brighton station, the beach, and the city, atop one of the city’s taller hills, you’ll find Seven Dials, a pretty Victorian district surrounding a road junction of the same name. This road junction, and the area, was dubbed Seven Dials as it is the place where 7 main roads radiate outwards from the central roundabout. Thanks to the height of the hill on which Seven Dials sits atop, the sea views to the South as well as views of Elm Grove and Hanover to the East, are remarkable.
Seven Dials was born soon after the opening of the Brighton to London Railway Line in 1841. This started with the building of terraced houses and very smart victorian villas hence the striking architecture that now lines the streets. The name Seven Dials is derived from a similar style junction in London that also has, you guessed it, seven roads radiating out from it.
Striking Victorian villas and regency-style terraced houses make up the majority of the architecture in Seven Dials. Picture regal townhouses in white and cream, embellished with detailed awnings and cast-iron balconies
The Good Companions pub on Dyke Road, designed by Arthur Packham, is a great example of interwar pub architecture. Built in 1939 this building features brickwork characteristic of the 1930’s.
The average price of a property is Seven Dials is a little higher than most of the other areas we cover, sitting at £457,172. The average cost of a flat which makes up the majority of sales in Seven Dials, is £303,262. Terraced houses go for £682,388 on average and semi-detached properties are sold for £910,136 on average.
Over the last year, sold prices have increased by 18%.
Property in Seven Dials also fetches some of the highest rental rates in the city. A 2 bedroom flat can be rented at around £1450 per calendar month.
Train: less than a 10 minute walk to Brighton Station, with frequent trains to London and the South coast.
Car: The A270 and Dyke road both are easily acessible from Seven Dials. The traffic around the dials is notoriously chaotic but you are out of this busy area in minutes once you manage to get onto one of these main roads.
Bus: the 2, 27, 271, 273, 37B, 7, and 77 buses run through Seven Dials giving you acess to the whole city and the South Downs. The 77 bus will take you from the Dials to Devils Dyke in only 20 minutes.
Walking: From Seven Dials you are half a mile from the iconic North Laines and less than an mile from the beach. The walk on the way into town or to the beach is all downhill so you’ll be there in no time. If hill walking on the way home isn’t for you, it’s easy to grab an uber or taxi to bring you back up the hill.
