Lewes Crescent is a Grade 1 listed crescent in Kemptown, made up of 28, four storey houses that exhibit regency style architecture. Spanning 840 feet of Brighton’s magnificent seafront, Lewes Crescent makes up part of the Kemptown Estate, initiated in 1827 by Thomas Kemp.
As part of this estate, residents have access to six acres of beautifully landscaped private gardens on Brighton seafront called Kemptown Enclosures.
Lewis Caroll, the author of Alice and Wonderland, was a regular guest in one of the houses around Kemptown Enclosures. He spent a lot of time writing in the gardens. These gardens are complete with a tunnel that leads to the esplanade on the seafront. Can you think of what part of the famous Alice in Wonderland story is rumoured to have been inspired by this?
Year-round the areas near Lewes Crescent is upbeat thanks to the goings-on along the seafront as well as in Kemptown. There is always something to do here as you are a stone’s throw from the famous Marine Parade. Here you’ll find Yellowave Beach Sports Venue and The Sea Lanes, two hubs of outdoor activity. However, this is not to be confused with a ‘busy’ or ‘noisy’ place! Lewes Crescent is a residential area that benefits from all the excitement nearby whilst maintaining a tranquil and calm atmosphere.
Only 0.5 miles from Brighton Marina, and 2 miles, or a short convenient bus ride, away from Brighton Station with excellent links to Gatwick, London and the south coast. Brighton Pier and the Laines are also only 1.2 and 1.5 miles away respectively.
Simple access to the well-maintained bike lane network provides readily available, eco-friendly travel around the city. If you don’t have your own bike, BTN bikeshare bikes are available on the seafront for a small fee.
Within a 1.5 mile radius there are 10 schools with Ofsted gradings of ‘Good’ or higher. These schools include primary, nursery, and secondary schools.
